 | Description: Excellent, stirring, oil on board seascape painting by very well listed Dutch artist Jan Christianus Schotel (1787 - 1838), an untitled depiction of ships on the rough sea, a cloudy sky above, the ship in the fore flying a Dutch standard. A fabulous piece, typical of his oeuvre, signed in the lower right, on the bow of the ship. Mounted in a late 19th century Giltwood frame with applied gesso ornamentation in the corners.
Condition: There is some restoration and in painting in a vertical line in the east third of the piece, some wear to the frame as well. Still a fantastic example.
Size: The piece measures 29 1/4 x 32 3/4" at the frame, the piece measures 19 x 22 1/2" approximately
